There are a number of reasons that the Rocket Rods closed. The Rocket Rods completed the course of the 16-minute PeopleMover in only about 3 minutes. Because the Rocket Rods project was not given a large enough budget to bank the track's curves, the Rocket Rods had to slow down substantially to maneuver most of the turns. The support structure and track originally built for the PeopleMover was not meant to be used for a high speed attraction and began to weaken. Tires were also a problem for Rocket Rods. Disney had a contract with Goodyear Tires, who sponsored the PeopleMover during its entire 28-year run. Disney would advertise for Goodyear in exchange for tires for the attraction. The deal only lasted three weeks! The reason is that due to high speeds and turning the tires wore quickly and had to be replaced within 4-7 days. The constant changes in speed caused the vehicles' onboard computer systems to fail, shutting down the entire attraction. The attraction broke down at least once a day, causing queues of up to three hours. It was not uncommon for guests to receive rain check passes to ride on another day.

However, rumor has it that they might be building something on that track soon, perhaps another people mover, or they might introduce something new! I think if they planned on not doing anything with the track they would have torn it down, but it's still up there, just waiting for a purpose!

hope I'm of assistance!

It was basically one reason and that was maintenance. The Rocket Rods were very high-maintence vehicles subject to a lot of downtime. They were originally going to be similar to Test Track in EPCOT. But they did not do the Banked Curves as originally planned due to budgets. This caused a lot of wear and tear on the Brakes, because the vehicles had to slow down at several points. This issue would have been lessend by the banked turns.

This combined with the low capacity is whey they never repoened. Instead they turned the Interior Queue to Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters.

Nope the ride at disneyland had it first been there a billion times before the movie opened. Yeah the movie got many scenes from the ride as well.

Because it was on the overhead track that was deemed to not be earthquake worthy. It's the same reason that the people mover was never reopened there. It's still at DW, though.

to many breakdowns, to high of a cost to repair, it was also causing the sub ride some strutcure damage meaning chucks of concreate were falling into the lagoon,

the track was ment to have slow moving ride on it not fast pace ride on it

The rocket ride is open, it is now call Astro Obitors and the ride is now at ground level, right at the entrance to Tommorrow Land from main street.
